Paul Dewhurst | Founder and Musical Director 1999 - 2005
Paul Dewhurst founded Thomas’s Choral Society in 1999 with
Julia Moorhouse, who was then a Thomas’s parent and who has sung in the choir
ever since. From the very start the choir was ambitious and the early concerts
included great works such as Handel’s Messiah, Vivaldi Gloria and Bach St John
Passion. Through their combined enthusiasm and love of choral music they built
the choir up into a vibrant group which started to grow even more rapidly once
recruitment of non-Thomas’s singers began.
Since 2007 Paul has been Organist and Director of Music at
Pontefract Parish Church (West Yorkshire). He conducts a number of
choirs in the area including the Pontefract Choral Society, the Epiphany
Singers and the Bradford Chorale. He is a visiting singing teacher at NEW
College Pontefract and at Hill House School in Doncaster, and is in demand as
an organ recitalist. His first solo disc of organ music from St Giles’s
Pontefract “Colours of the Organ” has been well received and has been heard on
